Hi all,
Firstly, I have launched a weekly Newsletter focused on mental wellbeing (Akesio Newsletter here), which will now be sent out once every 2 weeks. Of course, if necessary, I’ll write a bit more often, such as with the Covid-19 spread. Speaking of which, I hope you’re doing well in these times of uncertainty regarding the epidemic and its consequences.
No need to panic, but do your best to keep yourself and the people around you healthy:
wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
always wash your hands when you get home or to work
use hand sanitising gel if soap and water are not available
cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards
try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
For more info, check with the World Health Organisation (here a short explanatory video), NHS for UK residents, European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and your country of residence’s public health organisations. More info-graphs here, and a brilliant overview of resources & reading published by a16z Editorial.
If you’re managing a team and you’ve decided to switch to remote work, you can also read Akesio’s last blog post.
Now, let’s learn few things together!
How to boost your IMMUNE SYSTEM
Discussions about coronavirus often end with questions about how ones can boost their immune system and have better defences. There is nothing to do in particular, at least not more that you usually do to lead a healthy life. Here is a list from the Harvard Health Publishing blog:
Don't smoke
Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables
Exercise regularly
Maintain a healthy weight
If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation
Get adequate sleep
Take steps to avoid infection, such as washing your hands frequently and cooking meat thoroughly
Try to minimize stress
However, please keep in mind that all these will NOT protect you from from getting Covid-19, just strengthen your immune system in general.
Pay attention to fakes news that promise you that garlic (or other) will make you immune to coronavirus.
POWERFUL ANTIBIOTIC DISCOVERED USING MACHINE LEARNING
A recent study using artificial intelligence found “powerful antibiotic that kills some of the most dangerous drug-resistant bacteria in the world.
The drug works in a different way to existing antibacterials and is the first of its kind to be found by setting AI loose on vast digital libraries of pharmaceutical compounds.”
AI driven BIOMARKERS and prevention for AGE-related diseases
The term “biomarker”, coming from “biological marker”, refers to a large category of medical signs which can be measured accurately and repeatedly, and are by definition objective, quantifiable characteristics of biological processes.
There is no single gold standard biomarker to monitor healthy longevity; however using AI and machine learning, this paper suggests evidence that “reliable Biomarkers of Longevity have the potential to help prevent age-related diseases and extend health span”.
My personal experience
These days I stick with my usual routine, but add few more things in more consistent manner to boost my energy:
cold showers for min 3-5 minutes
a ginger-curcuma-lemon combo every day, with various bases (i.e. baby spinach, blueberries etc.)
Supplements as usually (Vit D, zinc, CoQ10, iron, magnesium, safran, butyrate, probiotiques) and since recently Shiitake Maitake Reishi mushrooms supplements
eating mushrooms 2x/week and plenty of vegetables (I am crazy about ‘endive-nuts - -sesame oils- lemon’ salad these days)
zero coffee, zero alcohol
kamboucha 2-3x/week
black chocolate or cocoa drink (homemade, no sugar)
miso soup
Until next time, remember to wash your hands and keep calm!
Stay healthy,
Lavinia
